Open burning of garbage has been illegal in the State of Minnesota since 1969. For information on the health effects of open burning, check the information on the MPCA’s website: www.pca.state.mn.us/oea/reduce/burnbarrel.cfm. Buying smart, reducing, reusing, and recycling items will reduce the amount of garbage that you generate.
Household Hazardous Waste
When the County is not providing its household hazardous waste collections, Mille Lacs County residents have the option of taking their HHW to Chisago County’s hazardous waste facility at 39649 Grand Ave in North Branch. There will be a minimum charge of $70 to dispose of HHW at this facility (this is a pass-through cost, so they will calculate a total charge based on what is being disposed of). Drop-off is by appointment only, so please call 651/237-0912, and check the website for items that will be accepted www.co.chisago.mn.us/Category.aspx?Id=ce9c115d-3aa9-4741-993a-7dc68b916dcf.
