Household Hazardous Waste

The Stearns County Regional Hazardous Waste Facility will be closed to comply with the Stay Home and Limited Movement Order. Emergency Executive Order 20-20 for two weeks which will begin Friday, March 27, 2020, at 11:59 pm and goes through Friday, April 10, 2020 

Mille Lacs County residents can dispose of their household hazardous waste at the Stearns County Regional Hazardous Waste Facility  The Stearns County facilitiy is currently suspending Saturday service until further notice; however, they will remain open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:15 PM.

Mille Lacs County residents can dispose of many materials, including:

  • Car Seats
  • Fluorescent light bulbs (all sizes)
  • Household cleaners
  • Paint
  • Pesticides
  • Rechargeable and alkaline batteries
  • Sharps
  • Solvents
  • Stains

The Stearns County Regional Hazardous Waste Facility also operates a Reuse Store. Usable household hazardous wastes, such as paint, household cleaners, and stains, are available for residents at no cost.

Mobile Collection Events

Mille Lacs County Environmental Resources, in coordination with Stearns County, hosts two mobile collection events for household hazardous waste each year. The 2020 events are tentatively scheduled for May 28th in Milaca, and June 4th in Wahkon.

Items accepted include household hazardous waste, electronics, and appliances; fees are charged for the disposal of some items.
