Shoreland, Wild & Scenic River Districts

These districts are regulated by the Mille Lacs County Development Ordinance to provide for natural resources protection, while allowing for appropriate development.

Shoreland District

Shoreland is land located near public waters. Areas subject to shoreland regulations include:

  • Land located within 1,000 feet of the ordinary high water level of a lake, pond, or flowage
  • Land located within 300 feet from a river or stream, or the landward extent of a flood plain designated by ordinance on a river or stream, whichever is greater

Wild & Scenic River District

The Wild & Scenic River District is designated by the Rum River Management Plan (NR 2700) with boundaries ranging from 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile from the Ordinary High Water Mark of the river.
